Putrajaya to create system to streamline foreign worker recruitment

Deputy Home Minister Mohd Azis Jamman says there are presently too many systems to accommodate different countries and vendors.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Home Minister Mohd Azis Jamman says Putrajaya is working to set up a system that will streamline the administration and hiring of foreign workers in the country.

At the moment, he said, different countries had different systems for the employment of their citizens.

“We are in the process of creating a single system to manage foreign workers.

“This is to make it easier to hire these workers to work in sectors that need foreign workers,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to Ngeh Koo Ham (PH-Beruas), who had asked if there were plans to legalise illegal foreign workers in the country.

Azis said the government did not want to do this too often as it would send the wrong signal to employers and foreign workers.

“It would seem as if we are encouraging them to overstay in our country as they would wait for legalisation programmes to be held,” he said.
