Ex-Poca detainee remanded over KL goldsmith heist

The suspect, from Teluk Panglima Garang, Selangor, has a Poca record in Terengganu, police say.

KUALA LUMPUR: A suspect arrested during a shootout in an armed robbery at a goldsmith shop in Kuchai Lama on Tuesday was previously detained under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca), police say.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said the 22-year-old suspect, who was remanded until Saturday, was from Teluk Panglima Garang, Selangor, and had a Poca record in Terengganu.

“The identities of five other dead gunmen are being ascertained through fingerprints. We expect them to be available tomorrow (Thursday),” he said after a police programme here yesterday.

He added that none of those who were shot dead had been carrying identity cards.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes car used in the incident had been reported stolen in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, earlier this year, he said.

“The Mercedes car used a fake registration number while the Perodua Myvi car was a rental car.”

He said the suspects had made off with two bags of jewellery, but the amount involved was still under investigation.
