KUALA LUMPUR:
Gobind Singh Deo has vowed to continue speaking up for consumers despite a petition demanding his resignation for criticising Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) over its expensive rates and poor customer satisfaction.

“I will not stop doing my duty as a minister.

“It is my duty to question.

“It is my duty to try to improve things and it is my duty to try to find ways to improve on matters that come under my ministry,” the communications and multimedia minister said at the Parliament lobby.

The Puchong MP was asked to comment on a petition by one “Concerned Citizen” who blamed him for the drop in TM’s share price to RM2.26 since the May 9 polls.

The petitioner also accused Gobind of being biased against TM and claimed complaints about Maxis and pay-TV operator Astro were being ignored.

The petitioner also slammed Gobind for allegedly criticising TM’s performance without offering solutions.

Gobind said anyone had the right to start a petition.

“But my advice to all of them, and all the telcos, is simply this: Improve! And Malaysians will support you.”

He also said that if one were to look at his tweets, he was merely seeking an explanation.
