As one of the BN component parties, he said, MCA’s views should be considered.
Wee said MCA had consistently voiced its objections to Umno’s efforts to collaborate with PAS after its heavy defeat in the May 9 general election.
“We need to hold on to the spirit of working together. You (Zahid), as an individual in your party, have betrayed the spirit of the coalition by asking other parties (PAS) to join it.
“Of course you (Zahid) will say you are free to do whatever you like, but we are all in BN. You must also be considerate of the feelings of other parties,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.
He added that PAS’ refusal to forge ties with BN despite being approached numerous times was an embarrassment to the coalition.
“I am sad looking at the remarks made by (PAS president) Hadi Awang, who appears to reject the notion of cooperating with BN. That, to me, is a joke.
“I don’t even know what Umno wants. You want to marry the woman, but the woman says no, so you have to bear the consequences,” he added.
However, he said any agreement on a collaboration between PAS and BN would be discussed in the central working committee meeting on Dec 2.
“I will leave it to the committee to discuss the matter and determine the party’s course after that.”
Last Saturday, Zahid, who is Bagan Datuk MP, openly invited PAS to join BN in its political movement.
Speaking at the Himpunan Perpaduan Ummah in Kampung Gajah town, Pasir Salak, Perak, he said Umno had admitted its mistake in being enemies with PAS all this while.
However, Hadi, who spoke on the same stage, did not make any comment on Zahid’s invitation.
The Marang MP merely repeated the party’s objection to the ICERD and urged the crowd to take to the streets if the government insists on ratifying the convention.
