SHAH ALAM:
A PKR leader said the party should not let its ordinary members decide party posts, saying its recent elections proved that the “one man one vote” system was impractical.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

“There are too many votes to count for every post at each level and wing,” said outgoing PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad at the party’s congress today.

The PKR elections have been marred by allegations of tampering in the e-voting devices, as well as phantom members and complaints about overcrowded voting centres.

Nik Nazmi said only the top leadership posts should be decided by party members, while other posts should be elected by delegates.

“Other political parties don’t even practise the ‘one man one vote’ system for all posts in the party.

“Nobody is as brave as us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi said PKR could consider lowering the minimum age for party membership to 18, in tandem with the government’s decision to lower the voting age from 21 to 18.

“We welcome that, but it also means that we need to emphasise political education, be it at governmental or party level.”
