Mohamed Azmin Ali successfully defended his position as PKR deputy president after defeating former vice-president Rafizi Ramli in a tightly contested race.
The official results of the PKR polls were announced by the party’s central election committee (JPP) chairman Rashid Din during the closing of the PKR national congress this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the four new PKR vice-presidents are Chua Tian Chang, also known as Tian Chua, Xavier Jayakumar, Nurul Izzah Anwar and Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Among the 20 central commitee members are Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Foreign Affairs Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Elizabeth Wong, Gan Pei Nei, Kamaruddin Jaffar, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Sivarasah Rasiah and Larry Sng.
They will serve during the 2018-2021 term.
Earlier it was also announced that the chairman for the new term will be Ahmad Kassim from Kedah. Othman Karim from the Federal Territory was named as his deputy.
The PKR elections, which took place from Sept 14 to Oct 10, saw some 800,000 PKR members taking to the polls in 218 divisions nationwide. This was PKR’s first elections after the May 9 general election.
On Friday, Haniza Talha was announced as the new PKR Wanita Chief with Dr Daroyah Alwi as her deputy. Akmal Nasir is now PKR Youth Chief and Muhammad Hilman Idham, his deputy.
The PKR elections saw an intense battle between Rafizi and Azmin, who both locked horns for the deputy president’s post. The party was seen divided into these two “camps” during the elections.
The elections, considered the longest in the country for a party, also saw complaints over alleged membership surges in some divisions, hacking in the tablets used in its e-voting, and purported vote buying.
