Streram dismisses Zuraida’s proposal, insists on standing in Rantau

The anaesthetist says he has worked in Rantau for two years and knows all the constituents there.

Dr Streram Sinnasamy succeeded in getting a declaration that the EC was wrong in declaring former MB Mohamad Hasan as the Rantau assemblyman.
PETALING JAYA:
Dr Streram Sinnasamy has dismissed a PKR leader’s proposal for the party to select someone else instead of him to stand in the impending Rantau by-election.

Earlier today, Zuraida Kamaruddin indicated her opposition to Streram being fielded again by the party for the by-election, following a court order to hold a re-election for the state seat.

“I would propose a Negeri Sembilan girl,” the former Wanita chief told reporters today after addressing PKR members during the party’s women’s wing congress.

Zuraida said PKR had not fielded female candidates in Negeri Sembilan in the May 9 general election.

In dismissing the idea, Streram said that at times, the Ampang MP seemed not aware of the real situation on the ground.

“I think her proposal was made in her capacity as a woman leader in PKR.

“But I have worked here for two years,” he told FMT, referring to Rantau. “I am also the party’s coordinator for Rantau.”

The anaesthetist also said that he would meet PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the matter, adding he was “100% confident” he would be picked to contest in the by-election.

“I must stand in Rantau as I know all the constituents.”

Earlier today, the Election Court allowed a petition filed by Streram to disqualify Mohamad Hasan as the Rantau assemblyman.

The seat was declared won by the former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar after the Election Commission blocked Streram from filing his nomination papers for the May 9 polls because he did not have an entry pass.
