SHAH ALAM:
Supporters of Dr Afif Bahardin, who contested for the PKR Youth chief post in the party’s recent polls, walked out of the PKR Youth congress in protest after Akmal Nasir, Afif’s challenger, was declared the winner.

According to sources, Akmal, who is aligned to PKR deputy president hopeful Rafizi Ramli, beat the Seberang Jaya assemblyman by 50 votes.

But after the Johor Bahru MP was declared the winner, around 100 PKR members, said to be Afif’s supporters, exited the hall. They were heard chanting Afif’s name and alleging that the election was unfair.

They also demanded that the party’s election committee hold fresh polls for the post.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hilman Idham, was named as the youth wing’s deputy chief.

Hilman is said to be aligned with Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is defending his deputy presidency.

The PKR polls, which ended last week, was mired in problems and plagued with allegations of fraud and money politics. There were also problems with the e-voting system.

Hilman later urged PKR Youth members to accept the election results with an “open heart”.

“Stop quarrelling and close ranks,” the Gombak Setia assemblyman told delegates.
