PETALING JAYA:
The government’s announcement that it will allocate RM10 million for the development of eSports in the country has been met with positive response.

Min-Liang Tan, the CEO of Razer, a global gaming hardware company, replied to a tweet by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman that he, too, would be investing RM10 million in eSports.

“Bro, it’s an incredibly progressive budget for Malaysia to commit MYR10M to esports for the youth and millennials.

“In light of that, I will also be investing MYR10M for eSports in Malaysia in 2019. Let’s bring eSports to the next level together!” he tweeted.

Syed Saddiq had earlier tweeted the RM10 million announcement and invited all industry players to invest in Malaysia.

The Muar MP later retweeted Tan’s reply, expressing gratitude for the latter’s contribution.

Tan’s tweet was also retweeted by Yasmin Mahmood, the CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Cooperation (MDEC).

“This is amazing!” she tweeted.

The allocation for eSports development will go to MDEC. It was announced as part of Budget 2019, tabled by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
