Products affected are the Auntie Rosie’s Original Homestyle and Natural Pandan Kaya spread (RM2.85 to RM3), and the Delicia Milky Chocolate (RM6.70 to RM7.20) and Hazelnut Chocolate (RM8.60 to RM9.10) spreads.
The Delicia Butterscotch, Choco Raisin, Raspberry Milk and Cranberries and Butter Raisin loaves, originally RM4.35, will be RM4.50, while its four cream rolls – vanilla, corn, butterscotch and chocolate – will see a 5 sen increase to RM0.85.
Its other products – fibre meal bread, European cottage-style bread, Squiggles, Twiggies and Muffin Supremes and so on – will not be affected, Gardenia said.
A Gardenia spokesman told FMT today that the price hike had been set for some time now, after an increase in costs of taxable supplies in recent months such as chocolate, vegetable shortening and packaging manufacturing.
“We are not able to hold (down) the prices of the above products due to the increase in manufacturing, operation, distribution and other costs.
“As for the rest of our products, we are currently absorbing the costs that have increased and will strive to improve our productivity and efficiency,” the spokesman said.
Earlier today, a statement from the company’s Kuala Lumpur operations CEO Koh Chin Huat to Gardenia retailers, sighted by FMT, confirming the decision, went viral on social media and online.
A similar letter stating that Gas Petronas home delivery services (GPHD) would see a price hike effective tomorrow, also made the rounds online today.
In a statement, Petronas said the delivery charges were revised from RM3.20 for 12kg and 14kg cylinders previously to RM8.20 for 12kg cylinders and RM8.40 for 14kg cylinders “in line with” the market rate.
“The price for self-pickup at authorised Gas Petronas dealers and retail shops remains as per the government’s regulated price of RM22.80 for 12kg cylinders and RM26.60 for 14kg cylinders,” it said.
The GPHD website lists current pricing at RM25.80 for 12kg cylinders and RM29.80 for 14kg cylinders in the central region.
Prices in the southeastern and northern regions meanwhile are RM25.20 for 12kg cylinders and RM29 for 14kg cylinders.
A spokesman for Petronas earlier told FMT the revision was not applicable to the company’s products.
The domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry is expected to make a statement on the matter later today.
