KUALA LUMPUR:
The owner of the site housing the Kinrara Oval cricket ground says the land must be returned upon expiry of its 15-year lease to the Malaysian Cricket Association at the end of the month.

Perumahan Kinrara Bhd (PKB), a joint venture company between I&P Group Sdn Bhd, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Lembaga Tabung Haji, said in a statement that the land had always been earmarked for development.

It said pending the land’s development, it was leased to MCA in 2004 for 15 years ending Oct 31. It said MCA had been made aware that the use of the land was temporary and that it would eventually need to find a permanent home for its operations.

“PKB is merely requesting for the return of the land upon expiry of the lease. MCA has been given ample notice of this intent as the developer wishes to start the development of the said land.

“MCA has also run up a sizeable sum owed to PKB to date,” it said.

The matter is being moderated by the National Sports Council of Malaysia.

PKB is requesting that MCA honour the terms in the leasing agreement and return usage of the land to the rightful owner upon expiry of the lease.
