
PAC previously questioned former prime minister Najib Razak, former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Customs director-general Subromaniam Tholasy on the issue.
Its deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh, who is the MP for Ipoh Timur, said Lim would be the last witness called to testify.
“We are finalising the date with the finance minister. It will be held after the budget on Nov 2,” he told reporters at the Dewan Rakyat building today.
The investigation into the purportedly missing GST credit returns is expected to wrap up by the end of the current Parliament sitting in December.
PAC chairman Ronald Kiandee likewise confirmed that Lim would be the committee’s final witness.
He said PAC had heard Najib’s side of the story, and that the former prime minister had cooperated.
“He gave answers and explained questions when asked,” he said, adding however that he could not reveal further details according to Standing Order 95.
He said they would evaluate whether Najib needed to be called in again, and that almost all of the PAC members had questioned Najib based on the terms of reference drawn up by the committee.
Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai however claimed in a Facebook post that Najib had been unable to answer his questions in the probe.
“MP for Pekan Najib bin Razak appears before the proceeding of Public Accounts Committee on GST refunds. He could not answer my questions,” he said.
In August, Lim claimed that the government faced a shortfall of RM19.25 billion as there was only RM148.6 million in the GST refunds trust account instead of RM19.4 billion.
“Where is the RM19.25 billion that went missing since 2015? The federal government is working hard to return RM19.4 billion beginning next year because the money does not belong to the government but the people,” he said.
