I’m disappointed, says Najib of mid-term review report

The former prime minister says most of what has been presented follows from policies his administration implemented and that it does not touch on Pakatan Harapan’s election promises.

Former prime minister Najib Razak says it looks like the Pakatan Harapan government will not fulfil what it promised.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Former prime minister Najib Razak today expressed his disappointment over the 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-term Review report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib said at the Parliament lobby that most of what was read out today was a continuation of what his administration had spearheaded, adding that none of it reflected Pakatan Harapan’s 14th general election promises.

“There is not so much new stuff in the presentation… One thing is clear – no mention of their election promises at all. Everything promised to the people is not mentioned in the performance (report),” Najib said.

“This means what has been promised will not be fulfilled, including abolishing tolls and no PTPTN and so on,” he said, referring to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation.

The 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-term Review report includes the implementation of new policies as well as revamps of existing policies.

It is the final five-year development plan (2016-2020) towards the realisation of Vision 2020.

The report is slated for debate beginning next Monday.

Meanwhile, asked about the arrest of former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier this afternoon by the MACC, Najib said he was saddened by it.

“I am sad with what happened to Zahid. I hope he is confident in this case. I also pray that the principles of the rule of law and transparency in the justice system are proven throughout the course of the case,” he said.
