The man will be charged under the country's customs act.

PETALING JAYA:
Authorities in Dhaka have arrested a Malaysian who tried to enter the country with 7kg of gold bars with a market value of 35 million takas (about RM1.7 million).

Bangladeshi media reports identified the man as Chan Gee Keong, 47, who was detained at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after he arrived on a Malindo Air flight.

Customs deputy commissioner Othello Chowdhury was quoted as saying that his men had frisked Chan after he passed the green lane at the airport, and found seven gold bars wrapped in carbon paper inside a jacket, each of which weighed 1kg.

Chan is expected to be charged under Bangladesh’s Customs Act and Special Powers Act.
