Judicial Commissioner Darryl Goon Siew Chye fixed the dates in chambers when the case came up for management.
Present was Raja Kamarul’s lawyers, Nadzratun Naim Hammad Azizi, and Ahmad Hazrin Abdul Rahman, representing MyNewsNet.
In the suit filed in January 2017, Raja Kamarul claimed that MyNewsNet had published an article with the title “Wakil Rakyat PAN Cuti Mewah Di UK” (“Amanah elected representative on luxury vacation In UK”) together with his picture on MyNewsHub on Jan 7, 2017.
He claimed the article contained defamatory words against him.
The senator, who is former Kuala Terengganu MP, also claimed the alleged defamatory words were intended to mean that he did not care or was insensitive to the hardship of the people, especially in his parliamentary constituency, as he had gone for a holiday in London while the people were bracing for floods at home.
He claimed that as a result of the alleged defamatory words, his reputation as an MP was affected and he was looked down by the people.
He is seeking for the plaintiff to withdraw the alleged defamatory words and to publish a public apology in MyNewsHub, as well as in the Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian newspapers based on terms agreed by him, and also general, exemplary and aggravated damages, and cost.
MyNewsNet, in its defence filed on March 13, 2017, said it was not the owner or publisher of the MyNewsHub portal as claimed by the plaintiff.
