Nazari will face PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim and three others in a multi-cornered fight for the parliamentary seat.
The others contesting are Umno veteran and former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, independent Stevie Chan and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Ahmad Kamaruddin.
Last night, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang described the party’s candidate, who previously contested in Pasir Raja in the May 9 general election, as a man of Anwar’s calibre.
The Port Dickson seat fell vacant after its incumbent Danyal Balagopal Abdullah stepped down to make way for PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim who is attempting to return to Parliament.
Danyal, a former naval officer, won the Port Dickson seat with 36,225 votes, beating Barisan Nasional’s VS Mogan (18,515 votes) and PAS’ Mahfuz Roslan (6,594 votes) in the May 9 general election.
The constituency has 75,770 voters, 68,486 of them ordinary voters, 7,268 early voters and 16 absentee voters.
Nomination for the by-election is on Saturday and polling is on Oct 13.
