LONDON:
Dr Mahathir Mohamad will deliver a lecture at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies tomorrow, in his first visit to the United Kingdom, before he departs for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

The distinguished lecture series will take place at the Malaysia auditorium of the centre themed “The Challenge of Good Governance in the Muslim World”.

It will be Mahathir’s first major speech in the West since returning as prime minister last May.

The centre, founded in 1985, has hosted leading figures in its lecture series.

Mahathir had delivered a lecture entitled “Islam the Misunderstood Religion” during his first visit to the centre in 1996.

He will depart to New York on Tuesday before returning to London on Sept 29 for the second-leg visit.

“The (UK) visit is expected to strengthen the bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” Wisma Putra said.
