PUTRAJAYA:
The vehicle carrying former prime minister Najib Razak was seen leaving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here at about 8.55am today.

Najib was arrested by MACC at 4.13pm yesterday over a 1MDB case involving the alleged deposit of RM2.6 billion into his personal account.

He is expected to be charged at a court in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm today.

Members of the media who had been camped at the MACC headquarters since 6am were only able to photograph the black Toyota Vellfire leaving the compound with Najib inside.

Najib is believed to be en route to the Bukit Aman Commercial Criminal Investigation Department at Jalan Tun Razak where the police will record his statement to assist the investigation under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 before taking him to court.

The former prime minister has been slapped with seven criminal charges.

On July 4, he pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur High Court to three charges of criminal breach of trust and one charge of abuse of power involving funds amounting to RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

On Aug 8, he pleaded not guilty in the same court to three charges of receiving RM42 million in proceeds from unlawful activities which was allegedly channelled into two of his accounts four years ago.
