Remand extended for cat-in-dryer suspects

Police are still searching for a third individual believed to be involved in the incident.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The remand order on two men suspected of being involved in killing a cat by putting it in a dryer at a launderette in Gombak has been extended another three days beginning tomorrow.

Gombak district police chief ACP Samsor Maarof said the extension was allowed by the Selayang Magistrate’s Court.

When contacted by Bernama, he said the suspects were remanded until Thursday to assist in investigations.

This comes after the police revealed photographs of three suspects wanted under Section 428 of the Penal Code for abusing and killing the animal.

Two of them, aged 26 and 40, were detained at two locations in Gombak last Friday while the third is still at large.

A CCTV recording had shown the two men placing a pregnant cat in a dryer at a launderette in Taman Gombak Ria. The clip, which quickly went viral, sparked strong criticism from the public with the Malaysian Animal Association lodging a police report on the matter.
