PETALING JAYA:
A former aide to Deputy Home Minister Mohd Azis Jamman was arrested earlier this afternoon after a report was lodged alleging that he had insulted the modesty of an optician.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R Munusamy confirmed that the arrest was made at 1pm today at Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

The ex-officer was caught on CCTV footage recording a female optician’s underskirt while she was conducting an eye test on Azis on Saturday morning at an outlet in Publika.

Munusamy told FMT that his officers had detained the ex-aide and put him under police custody.

He also said it was a coincidence that the officer was found at the same mall where the incident took place just two days prior, adding that the police had only acted on information claiming he was at a coffee shop inside.

Whether a remand order would be served on him would depend on police investigations, Munusamy said.

Azis has since sacked his aide after confronting him about the matter and viewing the CCTV footage.

He said he decided to do this because his aide’s actions had damaged his image and credibility as a deputy home minister.

The one-and-a-half minute CCTV footage was also uploaded on Facebook and went viral on social media.

According to a police report sighted by FMT, the optician only realised the officer was recording a video from underneath her skirt after viewing her office’s CCTV after the duo left.

The 30-year-old optician reported the incident to the police later that night.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim has said the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour.

Azis previously told FMT he had asked for his aide to accompany him inside the consultation room that day because he did not want to be alone with another woman.
