Abuse of position: Former PAS rep freed on MACC bail

Woman is believed to have appointed a company belonging to her son as a supplier for a state constituency service centre’s community programme.

SHAH ALAM: A former Selangor state assemblywoman from PAS was released today after being remanded for two days to facilitate investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged abuse of government funds amounting to RM50,000.

Magistrate Shazali Hidayat Shariff allowed the 56-year-old woman to be released on MACC bail of RM10,000 in one surety.

She was released at 1.30pm at the Selangor MACC’s office after posting bail.

The woman was held for investigations under Section 23 of the MACC Act, which involves an officer of a public body using his/her office or position for any gratification.

Yesterday, Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin issued a two-day remand order on the woman following an application by MACC.

According to a MACC source, the woman was believed to have appointed a company belonging to her son as a supplier for a state constituency service centre’s community programme.
