KTMB general manager Mohd Hider Yusoff said for a start, the cashless fare payment would be made compulsory to adult passengers and students.
“In addition to using Touch ‘n Go and MyKad cards, the introduction of the Komuter Link card will also facilitate travel transaction for the passengers,” he said at the KTM Komuter Go Cashless briefing here today.
Hider said over 85% of KTM Komuter users had been making cashless transaction for their journey while the rest were still using tokens.
“It is time for us to gradually do away with the use of tokens and fully implement cashless transaction.
“We are confident that the implementation will run smoothly as the existing machines have been equipped with top-up function for all types of cards,” he said.
Hider said they had also started distributing for free over a million Komuter Link (adult) and Concession cards since July 2017 in preparation for the transition.
“A total of 30,000 Komuter Link cards will be distributed for free from Sept 10 to 16. After that date, the card will be sold at RM5 each (without top-up) at the ticket counter, ticketing machine and by our mobile team at KTM Komuter stations,” he said.
The implementation of the cashless transaction will also see users enjoying cheaper fares of up to 20% while saving time queueing up at the counter or at the ticket machine to pay fares.
