PETALING JAYA:
Public broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has cancelled a talk show on the theme of “liberal Islam” which was to be aired this morning from Kota Bharu.

The show was to feature PAS senator Johari Mat in conjunction with a seminar on the topic “Danger of Liberal Islam”, organised by the Kelantan state government, but was cancelled at the last minute.

It is learnt that the programme was cancelled at the instruction of Angkasapuri.

Johari, who is the director of the seminar, said he was not informed of the reason behind the cancellation.

He however said it was not a big issue, saying seminar organisers have various ways to publicise the event.

“We are not dependent on RTM but we will appreciate it if it wants to cooperate with us,” he told FMT.

The seminar will take place in Kota Bharu on Sept 1 and will include representatives of muftis as well as Muslim scholars from Indonesia as presenters.

They will also present three papers critical of “liberal Muslims” as well as LGBT and feminist activists.

Johari said organisers also welcomed “liberal Muslims” to the seminar, saying the event was meant to be an intellectual discourse and not provocative.
