Aminah Abdullah, who applied for an inheritance certificate at the Shariah High Court here, said the moveable and immoveable properties, worth about RM2.1 billion, could then be distributed in accordance with Islamic law.

Under the shariah, the mother gets one-sixth of the estate’s assets, the wife gets one-eighth and the remainder is shared among the children.

Male children get double the share of female children.

In her application filed on March 2, Aminah, 84, named Jamaluddin’s widow Dr Kalsom Ismail, 62, and their children Nur Anis, 33; Ikhwan Hafiz, 31; Nurul Aliyaa 27; and Noor Adilla, 23 as parties to her action.

FMT understands that Aminah is also questioning how her son could have allegedly given some of the property, which includes 19 companies, to his children.

Other properties include parcels of land purchased in Malaysia and abroad.

Lawyer Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman, who is appearing for Aminah, said several attempts were made to resolve the matter but none had succeeded.

A case management was held before a Shariah Court registrar here today.

Ainiah told reporters that Kalsom and her children had applied to become interveners in the application.

The next case management is fixed on Sept 13.

Jamaluddin, better known as JJ, was a confidant of former prime minister Najib Razak.

He was the Malaysian envoy to the US and also served as chairman of the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme.

Jamaluddin, who was an Umno Supreme Council member, was MP for Rompin from 1990 until his death on April 4, 2015.

He was killed when his helicopter crashed into a jungle at Jalan Sungai Lalang in Kampung Pasir Baru near Semenyih, Selangor.

Others who died included businessman Tan Huat Seang who was CEO of SP Baiduri Sdn Bhd and Azlin Alias, a private secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
