I chased the bus, but only to demand compensation, says burger stall owner

Muhamad Nur Azri Muhd Arip says he only wanted to talk to the RapidKL bus driver who crashed into his burger stall on Thursday night.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The owner of the burger stall which was rammed by a RapidKL bus on Thursday says he and his friends chased after the bus on their motorcycles only to confront the driver for knocking into his stall at the PKNS Flats at AU2, Taman Keramat.

Muhamad Nur Azri Muhd Arip, 22, said it was true that he had followed the bus on his motorcycle without stopping to put on a shirt.

“I was angry but I did not want to hit the driver. I only wanted to talk and demand compensation from him for the damage to my stall.

“When we finally got to the bus, we found the driver already being beaten up by the crowd at the scene,” he added.

He said news that a two-month-old baby had been thrown at the scene was not true as the child, who was his nephew, had suffered no injuries.

He said the baby’s mother had been carrying the child at the time, and that the only damage was to his burger stall which he estimated would cost about RM500 to fix.

Muhamad Nur Azri said before ramming into his stall, the bus driver had accelerated and crashed into a black Proton Iswara. The car driver then gave chase to the bus as well, he said.

In a bid to escape, the bus driver had rammed into several other vehicles as well. He was finally forced to stop due to traffic congestion on Jalan Ampang.

Seven vehicles were severely damaged in the incident.
