PETALING JAYA:
All summonses issued under the controversial Automated Enforcement System (AES) are to be written off.

The new Pakatan Harapan government has decided to take over all AES cameras set up to nab speeding motorists from two private companies from Sept 1, news reports said.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said there will be no more discounts or cancellations of summonses for such offences in future.

He estimated 3.1 million AES summonses had not been settled since 2012 and the government was sacrificing RM435 million in fines due from them by writing them off.

He said from Sept 1, the law on AES traffic summonses will be strictly observed, with no discounts given.

Bernama reported this task had been given to the Road Transport Department.
