Dewan approves reallocation of RM9.29 bil expenditure

Reallocation necessary to facilitate restructuring of functions and organisational structure of various ministries.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The Dewan Rakyat today passed a bill for the reallocation of RM9.29 billion.

This follows the second reading of the Supply (Reallocation of Appropriated Expenditure) Bill 2018 and subsequent debates by MPs on the allocations for the various ministries.

The reallocation is aimed at facilitating the restructuring of the functions and organisational structure of the ministries, following a change in government after the 14th general election.

Deputy Finance Minister Amiruddin Hamzah winded up the debate.

Out of the RM9.29 billion budget, RM3.07 billion is for operating expenditure and the rest is for development expenditure.

The economic affairs ministry will receive the lion’s share of the reallocated operating expenditure of about RM1.29 billion.

The allocation will cover the expenses related to the programmes transferred from the Prime Minister’s Department, finance ministry, rural development ministry, and the domestic trade and consumerism ministry.

As for the reallocated development expenditure, the finance ministry received the highest amount of RM2.1 billion compared with other ministries to cover expenditure related to the programmes transferred from the Prime Minister’s Department.
