MCA names Tan Chee Teong for Balakong

The party’s number two, Wee Ka Siong admits it will be an uphill task for the MCA to wrest the state seat from the DAP.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The MCA today named Tan Chee Teong as the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Balakong by-election.

In making the announcement, the party’s deputy president Wee Ka Siong said the MCA decided to field a young and energetic candidate for the state seat.

“We know it won’t be an easy task, but we will try to get as many votes as we can,” he told reporters at the MCA headquarters here.

The Balakong seat fell vacant after its assemblyman Eddie Ng, of the DAP, died in a car crash last month.

The by-election will be held on Sept 8.

In the 14th general election (GE14), Ng obtained 41,768 votes while MCA’s Lim Chee Wah received 5,874 votes and PAS’ Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali got 6,230 votes.

Earlier today, the DAP confirmed Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor Wong Siew Ki as its candidate for the Balakong by-election.
