ALOR SETAR:
A former Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman has been remanded for five days starting today over a probe into the alleged misappropriation of RM30,000 from the menteri besar’s special fund.

The remand order was issued by Alor Setar court senior assistant registrar Nor Azah Idris following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The former assemblyman, who is in his 60s and holds a “Datuk” title, was detained yesterday after going to the Kedah MACC office to give his statement.

It is learnt that the suspect had applied for an allocation from the fund in February last year to organise a programme, but the money was not used for that purpose.
