GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang state assembly has nominated the sister of former chief minister Lim Guan Eng as a Dewan Negara senator, alongside a former PKR MP for Balik Pulau.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (DAP-Padang Kota) proposed the names of DAP’s Lim Hui Ying and Yusmadi Yusoff, seconded by Dr Afif Bahardin (PKR-Seberang Jaya).

Yusmadi, 44, a lawyer, served as Balik Pulau MP for one term, after winning the seat in 2008.

Hui Ying, 55, is a Universiti Malaya economics graduate, and currently the Penang DAP secretary. She was also DAP’s election campaign director in Penang during the 2013 and 2018 polls.

Meanwhile, four people took their oaths of office as senators for a three-year term before Dewan Negara president SA Vigneswaran today.

They are Kuantan MCA Division chief Ti Lian Ker, 55; Pahang Wanita Umno committee member Siti Fatimah Yahya, 63; Arau Umno branch former treasurer Sabani Mat, 58; and Perlis Umno executive secretary Kamarudin Abdun, 60.
