The former prime minister had yesterday made the claim following the arrest of 17 people, comprising officers and security guards of the Prime Minister’s Department, for allegedly misappropriating the funds.
“We plan to call in the former prime minister over his claim,” MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said in a statement.
Azam confirmed that MACC had seized RM1.19 million in its probe into the misappropriation of funds, said to be for use in the recent 14th general election.
MACC also seized two cars, a Subaru Impreza and a Toyota Vios, as well as a Honda motorcycle.
MACC had two days ago detained officers and security guards of the Prime Minister’s Department for allegedly misusing the RM3.5 million.
The suspects, aged between 31 and 51, were detained separately between 2.45pm and 3.15pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
They were suspected to have abused the money for personal use.
