Seri Setia rep dies

The Selangor exco member died this evening at 6.28pm.

PETALING JAYA:
Seri Setia assemblyman Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin has died from colon cancer.

The Selangor menteri besar’s political secretary Borhan Aman Shah said the exco in charge of Islamic affairs died at 6.28pm at the Putrajaya Hospital.

Shaharuddin’s remains will be taken back to his family home in Desa Pinggiran Putra, Kajang, Selangor.

Prayers will be held tomorrow morning at Masjid Kampung Limau Manis before he is laid to rest at the Kampung Limau Manis cemetery.

“We express our condolences to his family,” Borhan said in a statement.

Sin Chew Daily reported on July 30 that Shaharuddin was critically ill from colon cancer.

However, an aide denied the report, saying Shaharuddin was on leave for a month after undergoing treatment.

In the May 9 general election, Shaharuddin garnered 29,250 votes to win the Seri Setia seat.

He was also mentioned as a candidate for the menteri besar’s post, prior to Amirudin Shari’s appointment.
