Penang Airport Limousine and Taxi Drivers Association president Hafizi Ahamad said presently there were too many cars waiting outside the terminal, causing delays to passengers.
He said the airport authorities ought to set a designated zone for e-hailing drivers, similar to the one implemented at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Hafizi said the move should be implemented right away as the situation was getting worse, with cars filling up both arrival and departure lanes.
He said it had caused delays for those catching their flights and others leaving the airport.
“The Penang airport can take a leaf out of KLIA’s experience in placing the e-hailing drivers at a reasonable distance away from the airport.
“The ride-hailing service operators can operate at this new waiting area so that all requests go to them first,” he told FMT.
Currently, e-hailing drivers wanting to pick-up passengers at the KLIA would have to wait at the 400-bay designated waiting bays at the Long-Term Car Park area.
Parking is free for the first 30 minutes.
