KUALA LUMPUR:
The police have sought the help of Interpol to track down the suspects involved in the murder of Palestinian lecturer Fadi Al-Batash who was shot dead in Setapak in April.

The home ministry said the police were trying to determine if the suspects were still in the country or had managed to escape to other countries.

“The probe is still ongoing to detect the identity of the suspects through the forensic data acquired from the crime scene such as bullet shells and fingerprints.

“Police have also created a photofit of the suspects based on statements given by witnesses,” said the ministry in a parliamentary reply.

It was replying to Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Baru) who had asked the ministry on updates regarding the investigations.

Fadi, 35, was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle at 6am on April 21 as he was walking to a surau near his home in Jalan Meranti, Setapak.

Fadi’s murder grabbed global attention, especially in the Muslim world.

The 35-year-old Palestinian lecturer had been living in Malaysia with his wife and three children for 10 years.

News portals quoted a family friend as claiming that Fadi, who was active in several NGOs, was killed to stop aid to Palestine.

While Hamas had confirmed Fadi as a member, Palestinian websites say he was related to a senior official of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Khaled Albatsh, who accused Mossad, the Israeli spy agency, of carrying out the murder.
