Mahfuz said the people should be made aware that the minimum wage for private sector workers was not among the PH manifesto’s 100-day promises.
“The promise is for the five years, before the end of the term of government, we will think of a way to implement it, but currently we have started on the minimum wage which will be reviewed every two years,” he said.
Mahfuz, who is deputy human resource minister, said a study was being carried out and would be submitted to the Cabinet. “But the government is committed into realising the promise,” he said at Kampung Padang Lalang here today.
Mahfuz said all employers were obliged to make contributions to the Social Security Organisation for contract workers and part-time workers in the public sector.
He said many such workers were being denied Socso contributions. “Perhaps they do not know their rights or they are afraid to inform Socso as they are worried action will be taken against them by the employer.”
