PETALING JAYA:
MCA today mocked Liew Chin Tong over his appointment as a deputy minister after being made senator.

It pointed out that Liew had previously ridiculed the appointment of a minister from the Chinese-based party through a similar process.

“This is karma biting back,” MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong told FMT.

The Ayer Hitam MP was referring to an April 6 Facebook post in which Liew — who was today named as the deputy defence minister — took a swipe at MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon.

Chong was the deputy education minister in the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

Liew had three months ago asked his followers on a social networking site to tell which seat Chong contested for and won in the 13th general election

“Is there a constituency called ‘backdoor’,” he asked in an apparent jibe as to how Chong became a deputy minister.

In calling out Liew’s sudden change of stance, Wee went on to point out that it was up to the DAP strategist to accept the senatorship.

“It is his choice, so I congratulate him.

“But only he can explain why.”

Apart from Liew, Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy and Terengganu Amanah chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah were also made senators.

Waythamoorthy is now a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, in charge of national unity and social wellbeing, while Raja Bahrin is the deputy housing and local government minister.

Others sworn in were PPBM’s Mohd Radzi Md Jidin (deputy economic affairs minister) and Marzuki Yahya (deputy foreign affairs minister).
