“We have given the police a reasonable period of seven days to furnish the requested documents,” said the lawyers in a statement.
“Our client reiterates that substantial portion of the money seized belongs to Umno and has no relationship whatsoever with the case of 1MDB or SRC,” it said, referring to the state investment fund and its former subsidiary, SRC International.
It was previously reported that Umno appointed prominent lawyer Hariharan Tara Singh in its bid to get back some RM116.7 million confiscated by the authorities.
Its legal unit chief Azalina Othman Said said a team of lawyers led by Hariharan was considering various aspects in claiming the money, which Umno said belonged to the party.
The money, which was kept in various currencies, was part of cash and luxury goods that was seized from several properties linked to the family of former prime minister Najib Razak.
Police said the items seized were worth over RM1 billion.
