
But Abu Bakar Yahya, who left Perkasa to join PPBM, refused to give more details, saying he would prefer to wait for an official announcement on the matter.
“I have yet to take my oath,” he said when asked on speculation of his appointment.
He said there were other candidates being considered for the post.
“So I could be one of them,” he added.
In October 2016, Abu Bakar, who was the Selangor Perkasa leader, joined PPBM, and was appointed to the party’s Supreme Council.
Last May, another PPBM Supreme Council member Muhammad Zahid Md. Arip, the grandson to the late Ghafar Baba who once served as deputy prime minister during Mahathir’s first term leading the government, was appointed as Mahathir’s political secretary.
