Kamarul Zaman Yusoff said now was the time to focus on improving the country’s overall situation and development.
“At the same time, letting PH win the seat uncontested will save public expenditure,” he said.
In any case, he added, the opposition was unlikely to win the by-election based on the outcome of the May 9 polls.
“Even if the opposition is able to cause an upset in the by-election, the outcome would not have any impact as PH has a solid majority in Selangor,” he said.
The need for a by-election in Sungai Kandis arose following the death of PKR assemblymen Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2.
According to the Election Commission, the by-election will be held on Aug 4 while nomination will be on July 21.
Shuhaimi, a former political secretary of ex-Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, died of lymphoma.
He retained the Sungai Kandis seat in the last general election with a majority of 12,480 against candidates from BN, PAS and PRM.
