Khalid said he was in favour of gazetting the plan but would like to hear suggestions by mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz and other top officials.
“I have asked the management to advise me on reasons why it should not be done immediately.
“I would also like to hear the pros and cons of the plan,” he told reporters after his first meeting with DBKL officials since his appointment.
Khalid said any further delay on making a decision on the plan would have implications for development in the city.
“While we take our time to decide (on the plan), other developments would be taking place,” he said.
In February this year, a coalition of Kuala Lumpur residents had said they were prepared to take City Hall to court if the plan was not gazetted.
Save KL (SKL) chairman Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman had said continued inaction by City Hall meant it had failed in its duties by not gazetting the draft plan according to the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982.
Last year, City Hall said it was pointless to gazette the KL City Plan 2020 as it was due to expire by 2020.
Amin said there would be discussions to draft a new plan — the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2050.
The KL Structure Plan was gazetted in 2004 but the more detailed version — the draft KL City Plan 2020, which was launched in 2008 and underwent public objections and public consultation — has yet to be gazetted.
