Ramlee told FMT that Chief Minister Shafie Apdal’s flip-flop on the 348-hectare Tanjung Aru Eco Development project showed that Shafie had no fresh ideas on how to develop Sabah. “All he does is to continue what the previous government has done.”
Shafie had told the state assembly yesterday that the project might be continued after all because it was an important project that could benefit the locals and the tourism industry.
A review would be carried out to ensure that any decision on this would satisfy locals, environmentalists and the investors, he said. During the recent general election campaign, Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Junz Wong had said that the project would be scrapped and the beach returned to the people if he was elected as assemblyman for Tanjung Aru.
Ramlee said that so far, the only new thing that Shafie had done was to lift a ban on pump boats imposed by the previous state government.
The lifting of the ban does not benefit Sabahans but only illegal immigrants, smugglers and cross-border criminals. “Sabahans do not use pump boats. We use pumps for water, not to power our boats. Makes one wonder what Shafie is up to,” he said.
Former BN Backbenchers Club chairman Rahim Ismail said Shafie’s statement showed that the previous government’s programmes were good for Sabah. “Now they realise that all the plans and programmes by the previous BN government were good and beneficial for Sabah. So, they cannot do anything but to go back on their word,” he said.
