He is reported to be in stable condition.
According to Zakiyuddin’s aide Muhasdey Muhammad, his boss had complained about chest pains before attending a function in Kepala Batas at about 11.45am.
He said five minutes later, Zakiyuddin told his driver to take him to a private hospital as he was feeling unwell.
There, he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). A doctor then referred him to the ICU ward at Penang Hospital for an angiogram to check for blockages in his arteries.
Doctors then classified his case as a “minor heart attack”. Muhasdey said Zakiyuddin was well before this and was not suffering from any illness.
He said Zakiyuddin’s condition was stable and he was able to talk. Doctors, however, have advised him to take a long rest before resuming his duties.
Zakiyuddin, 60, won the Pinang Tunggal seat in Butterworth in the recent general election.
He is also state Islamic affairs, industrial development and community relations committee chairman.
