Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he was informed at 6.15pm today of the arrest.
He said the Malaysian police had been contacted by their Indonesian counterparts to coordinate matters to bring Jamal back home.
“I wish to thank the Indonesian government, especially the Indonesian police, for their assistance,” he said in a statement.
Bukit Aman had issued a warrant of arrest against Jamal after he vanished from the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for back pain, a few hours after he was charged there before a magistrate on May 25.
He had pleaded not guilty to three charges and was allowed bail of RM3,000 for each of the offences.
On June 8, his lawyer, Imran Tamrin, said Jamal, who was speculated to have escaped to Indonesia, could not be contacted by him and family members.
Jamal was unsuccessful in the race for the recent Umno Youth chief’s post.
