“We will try to monetise whatever we can, but bear in mind it is nothing compared to the amount that has been robbed from the state,” he told Associated Press in an interview.
On Wednesday, police revealed that cash and items worth over RM1 billion were seized during raids at several premises linked to the former prime minister including at his house in Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur.
They include some 12,000 pieces of jewellery, over 1,000 handbags and watches and more than 200 sunglasses.
Lim said the value of the seized items was still “a drop in the ocean” compared to the losses in troubled state fund 1MDB.
But he said the amount was huge for a “small country” like Malaysia.
“Imagine if that amount was discovered or revealed in the United States, it would be mind boggling even for a country as wealthy as rich as the United States,” he said in the AP interview, adding that the revelation was “completely out of this world”.
