Companies commission suspends company profile service

Corporate information and details on share capital and directors will no longer be available.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has suspended its company profile service, meaning that information on companies registered with the commission will no longer be available to the public.

This includes corporate information and details on share capital and directors.

A notice on the SSM website read: “Temporarily suspended until future notice – ACGS (attestation of company good standing), company watch, particulars of share capital and particulars of shareholders.”

SSM has not responded to requests for clarification on the matter.

Members of the public were previously able to purchase a simple company profile for RM15.90 to verify the company’s shareholders and directors, along with other relevant details.

The service had also proven useful to those seeking information on public figures with a stake in a given company.

A recent example of this was the revelation that Lee Chong Wei had been a director of the company which owned Raj’s Banana Leaf restaurant in Bangsar. The eatery was shut down last month due to unhygienic food practices.

The restaurant later clarified that Lee had resigned from his directorship before the controversy, adding that he was not involved in the day-to-day running of the establishment.
