It said non-governmental organisations in the state felt this was better as the new one was too expensive.
At a meeting with Council of Eminent Persons today, the group’s steering committee member Lim Mah Hui said the present Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) might not be viable as it was too expensive.
He said reverting to the previous version made more sense and would meet the objective of providing better transport for the locals.
“All we want is for the state government to let a global authority on transport to review the masterplan,” Lim said.
He also said the transport plan should not be a mega project.
The PTMP, proposed in 2016, was a mega project put forward by SRS Consortium to the Penang government.
Penang Forum said the package was over-priced and included many components of “mega road construction” that would discourage people from using public transport.
