The debate will be held at 9.30pm, June 29, over Astro Awani’s 501 channel.
Tengku Razaleigh and Khairy have confirmed their attendance.
Astro Awani said it is now awaiting a response from acting Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi if he would also be taking part in the debate.
Last night, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh, in an interview with Astro Awani, challenged Zahid and Khairy to the debate.
The three are among seven contenders for the Umno top post in the June 30 party elections.
“If I dare to explain (on issues), other candidates should follow and be willing to do the same,” Tengku Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, said during a special interview with Awani last night.
Earlier today, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo had offered to arrange for RTM coverage if need be.
“For me, that’s not a problem; it’s up to Khairy and Zahid to respond to the challenge. If they need a platform, I can raise the matter with Radio Televisyen Malaysia.”
Besides Tengku Razaleigh, Khairy and Zahid, the others contesting the president’s post on June 30 are Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz, Rosile Saat, Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin.
