Confirming this today, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said MACC officers had gone to Finas headquarters on June 7.
“I want to stress that the ministry will not compromise on matters that involve elements of corruption, leakages or abuse of power in any agency under it,” he said in a statement.
Finas is the central government agency for the film industry of Malaysia.
Gobind said if the investigation proved any wrongdoing, strict action needed to be taken under the law or internally to tackle the problem.
He urged all those involved to give their full cooperation to MACC to carry out its probe.
“I hope the investigation will scrutinise the procedure concerning the use of allocations given to Finas and should there be weaknesses, recommendations should be made to strengthen it,” he said.
Gobind said corruption, leakages and abuse of power in the creative industry could weaken healthy competition which was needed for the industry to grow.
Finas is the latest among several government bodies to be scrutinised by MACC under the new government.
The others include the tourism and culture ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
