PETALING JAYA:
A PPBM Youth leader wants the police to investigate those who accused him of misusing political connections to secure lots at a Ramadan bazaar and renting them out at high rates.

Mohd Noorhisyam Abd Karim, who heads the party’s Bukit Bintang Youth wing, said he wished to have his name cleared as well as that of DAP’s Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun who is accused of assisting him in the matter.

According to Malaysiakini, he lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters around 1.30pm today.

“I am making this report to reject and deny these accusations which had gone viral, and also to enable the authorities to investigate these claims made by certain parties, including the media,” he was quoted as saying in the report.

He said he was willing to cooperate with the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in their investigations.

Bukit Bintang PPBM Youth secretary Abdul Razak Zabir and information chief Azrul Feisal Abdullah also filed separate reports to deny allegations about their involvement in the issue.

On June 14, DBKL Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department director Anwar Mohd Zain was quoted by The Star as saying that he had reversed his decision to reject an application from Noorhisyam for the lots at Jalan Masjid India after receiving a letter of support from Fong.

Fong denied receiving money from the rental of the lots, saying he had issued the letter of support because he wanted to help traders who did not have a licence to set up stalls at the bazaar.

The DAP treasurer said he had written the letter after Noorhisyam asked for his help on June 5 and had insisted that no rental charges were imposed by anyone other than DBKL.

Noorhisyam was alleged to have secured 80 stalls that he rented out for up to RM5,000 per lot.

Reacting to the controversy, PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman yesterday called for a halt to the culture of “recommendation letters” for government allocations and awards to stop abuse of power among politicians and civil servants.

The Muar MP said civil servants should be courageous and refrain from accepting such letters or lend their support on matters that were against the law.

He had also urged the police and MACC to probe the allegations.
