Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who is deputy state Umno chairman and MP for Kepala Batas, will seek re-election.
The other candidate is Bagan Umno division chief Shaikh Hussein Mydin, making his first appearance.
“We (Penang Umno) will offer two young candidates, aged under 50, for the Supreme Council posts,” Reezal said.
He said the nominations were to fulfil the party’s requirement for young people to hold posts in the Supreme Council for the 2018-2021 term.
Reezal Merican said Penang Umno chairman Zainal Abidin Osman was continuing to perform his duties as chairman.
A new state Umno liaison committee would be appointed after the party elections on June 30. Nomination of candidates will close tomorrow.
Reezal spoke to reporters at the Hari Raya open house at Wisma Umno here. It was attended by 5,000 guests, including Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq, who is with PPBM.
